Periel Aschenbrand is a writer, comic, podcast host and producer.

She is the author of two critically acclaimed comedic memoirs, The Only Bush I Trust is My Own (Penguin, US & Random House, UK) and On My Knees (Harper Collins, US & Penguin, Australia).

She is the on-air producer for LIVE FROM THE TABLE, the podcast for the world-famous Comedy Cellar and co-hosted and produced over 150 episodes of AND HERE’S MODI with the comedian, Modi.

Her work has been featured in countless publications including The New York Times, The New Yorker, Style.com, Refinery29, Paper magazine, The Washington Post, The New York Post, Interview Magazine, The Observer, The Howard Stern Wrap-Up Show and numerous others.

During COVID she hosted and produced a weekly comedy show on Zoom with comedians Jessica Kirson and Rachel Feinstein called ‘We Are Not Okay,’ which featured comics such as: Amy Schumer, Fortune Feimster, Yamaneika Saunders, Sal Vulcano and Nikki Glaser.

Her weekly column for TABLET Magazine, The Chosen Ones, featured interviews with Natasha Lyonne, Fran Drescher, Mark Seliger, Rachel Weisz and numerous other cultural figures.

She regularly produces and performs in her show, HYSTE-RICAL, at West Side Comedy Club which features comedians from HBO, Netflix, Hulu and late night.

FUN AND NOT SO FUN FACTS:

She is Jewish.

She grew up in Queens.

Her husband was supposed to be a one-night-stand.

Philip Roth once fed her Russian cherries in syrup from a spoon at Samovar and then never called her back. (More on this in her book, ON MY KNEES).

She is allergic to and doesn’t like cats but even if she weren’t allergic, she still wouldn’t like them.

She usually sneezes at least 8 times in a row.
